Frequently Asked Questions
I have yarn/books/supplies, may I donate it to Seattle Knitters Guild?
As a guild, we do not take donations of yarn, books, or related supplies. There are a few options that we endorse: Knit for Life, Seattle Recreative (Seattle - Greenwood and Georgetown), Tinkertopia (Tacoma - downtown), and Lost & Found Crafts (Olympia - Eastside). Yarn donated to thrift shops will find a good home. Many knitters on tight budgets count on these stores for their knitting materials. You are also welcome to post on our Facebook group SKGpliedtogether to get in touch with our members. Can anyone attend a guild meeting? Starting November 2020, the online meetings are available only to current members. We depend on membership fees to cover our speaker fees and other guild and meeting expenses. Does the guild offer knitting classes? The guild does not have specific classes available, though some of our meetings do have a teaching component. We recommend reaching out to your local yarn store for class availability. Some of our sponsors do offer classes (in person and/or virtual). I would like to knit for charity (homeless, preemies, etc.) Do you know of organizations who accept donations of knitted items? The list of charity knitting opportunities is long and ever-changing. Some charities have one-time events, others have ongoing drives, sometimes with deadlines. Your best bet is to search online for knitting charities in your area or with your local yarn store; many of our sponsors have information about charities they are crafting for. We have a separate page listing the charity knitting that some of our sponsors participate in which is a good place to start. I am looking for someone to knit an item/repair a knitted item. Is there someone in the guild who can do that? The SKG focuses on hobby knitting. Your local yarn store is your best resource for finding a professional knitter or finisher. As of January 2022, the following names were recommended to us by local yarn stores: Annalie's Finishing Service: https://www.theniftyknittershop.com/finishing-by-annelie Custom Knitting and Finishing: tricoter.com/services/finishing-services Finishing: Keith L. at Knits All Done: www.knitsalldone.com Finishing and repair: Bazaar Girls Yarn at [email protected] (Port Townsend) Finishing and repair: Stilly River Yarns at [email protected] (Stanwood) Want to stay up to date with Seattle Knitters Guild?
