Board and Officers

The Seattle Knitters Guild is a volunteer organization. Currently, the Guild has a Board of Officers consisting, with positions added or deleted as determined by a two-thirds majority of the Board.

Each Board position is held for a minimum of one year, with the term of office beginning October 1st and ending September 30th of the following year. Board members are expected to attend monthly Board meetings (on the Wednesday preceding the monthly meeting), attend Guild meetings (1st Wednesday of the month) and perform the duties of their positions. Descriptions of some of the offices are found in the by-laws.

There may be opportunities throughout the year for members to volunteer for short-term projects or other activities that may arise.

To volunteer or find out about volunteer opportunities, or if you have specific questions regarding Guild operations, please contact any of the Board members, or email board@seattleknittersguild.org.

Kasteyl Lukes
Kasteyl Lukes has called Seattle home for a decade now. An accomplished knitter, weaver, dyer, and spinner; she has a passion for teaching and enabling others in their fiber art obsessions. By day she gets dye all over her hands (and sometimes yarn), by night she’s the membership coordinator, making sure the membership roster stays up to date and no one gets left behind. Her oldest WIP is seven years old, and someday she hopes to spin and knit a traditional wedding ring shawl.

My life is full of the usual experiences of a female born in (shhh!) the first half of the last century: degree in teaching, marriage, children, brief soirée into athletics, health issues, retirement. Only everything seems to end up supersized. I’ve 4 kids; multiple degrees, mostly in Curriculum Development and Educational Leadership; 35 years in many aspects of education; 3 ex-husbands (I’m singularly terrible at picking them); 15 half-marathons starting in my late 50’s; neurological limitations after a total paralysis a long time ago. But I knit. And I relax. And feel positive. And that’s the best of life.
I’m mostly a self-taught knitter. That, and sewing, were my constants in childhood and ever since. I learned, and taught, both. I also love music, but am hopelessly incapable of making it. But not, I learned, of administration of organizations that support it. I landed as president of the Blues (Music) Society of WNY, and core committee for the international Blues Foundation. And on the Boards for the library, my HOA, and lots of others. I come to SKG a new resident of this area and of your organization with a useful skill set and commitment to growth within the organization and the wonderful community of knitters that is Seattle. Thank you for welcoming me.

I’ve been a knitter longer than I can remember. I am also a spinner. In both cases I am more a process person than a product person, except for completing gifts. I swim almost everyday and I have a massive collection of cookbooks that almost rivals my yarn stash. These days my spare time is spent with my new granddaughter, Rowan.

A friend taught me knitting in 2004 while I was on vacation.   I have been knitting ever since, although I do take long breaks from it.  I have taught myself crochet and needle felting, and have taken a few spinning classes along the way.   I am more of a process knitter who enjoys stepping outside the box.  I am exploring amigurumi, which I always have to modify,  as well as freeform knitting and crochet.  My most involved project is creating my own coral reef.  Other hobbies include gardening, photography, acrylic painting, and simply soaking up the wonders of nature.

Born and raised in the Puget Sound area, I started knitting again in 2014 (after, like I’m sure many of us, learning the basics in elementary school then not continuing). I joined SKG in 2016; in 2017, I moved to Tacoma, but continued to be involved in the guild since I work in Seattle (taking transit means so much knitting time!). I joined the board in August 2021 and look forward each month to learning more about our speakers - and what our members are working on - when updating content. On weekends I’m usually volunteering at my local indie movie theater - and knitting everywhere! The first weekend in August I can usually be found at the Seafair festival on the shores of Lake Washington … with my knitting.

Alice Taff

Alice Taff was an SKG member in Seattle, then moved to Juneau, Alaska, and was able to rejoin when the guild went virtual. She works as a linguist with Alaskan language communities when she can tear herself away from knitting.
